WORK : 'How to Build a Brand' Bristol Event

On Saturday, Weekend:IN and four amazing independent business owners ran a creative business workshop for a group of fifteen guests who were looking to build up their skills and expertise to help them push their new, small businesses. The setting of Court House Farm in Portishead was beautiful, a fab place to bring people together. All throughout the day the room was buzzing with creative energy everyone came away feeling so inspired by the four amazing guest speakers who were involved.

The day started with a tasty breakfast followed by a talk by Alison from Wonderland Comms. She taught the group how to value their brand identity and individual personality to get the best out of their business and customers. Her ethos of "Stand out. Stand Tall. Stand Tall. Stand for Something, goddamit" made everyone do just that. Helen from The Bakemonger took the next workshop, it was collaborative and creative, surrounding the theme of trend and colour.

After a delicious lunch from Pinkmans Bakery, the group talked Instagram, aesthetics, descriptions, stories and hashtags with Abi, who runs the successful blog These Four Walls. The time with Abi was spent learning how social media platforms can build a business and get you engaged with the right audience. The guests then went and tried out their new social media skills on their own products, using Capture by Lucy backdrops, to share on their own Instagram feeds. Lastly, Hels from Lionheart Magazine, an independent lifestyle publication, rounded up the day talking about her fantastic publication and giving tips and tricks on how to make your readers feel every emotion, spark conversation (perhaps even debate) and ultimately create a great following for your business.

"Attending the How To Build A Brand event gave me more direction for my business than I have had for a long time. I have been inspired by not only the amazing ladies who hosted the workshops but by my fellow creatives taking on the challenges of starting a business."

The whole day was insightful and the feedback from the guests was that they felt inspired by the creative business workshop. Not only did the guests leave with new found knowledge but, with new friends. It felt as if a big community had been created in the space of a day. As a request from the group we'll all be keeping in touch in a Facebook group. It's great to have a community of people in a similar situation to ask advice from and sound off to when starting your business, it's fantastically powerful.
