Designed not only for you to learn and find inspiration, but to give you that much-needed time to work on developing your business. Within a beautiful environment and surrounded by a group of like-minded individuals, you’ll come away with a clear grasp on what steps to take to help your business grow.

With inspiring talks and workshops led by successful creative independent business owners, Weekend:IN's 'How to Build a Brand’ retreat will give you that time and motivation to ensure each choice in your business is intentional and purposeful for your brand.

 
 

Who is it for? 

Whether you're already running a small business full-time, have a side hustle you’d like to build into the everyday, or have a bright idea for a business in the future, you will benefit from taking intentional steps to build your brand. Whether you have an online business, you’re looking to turn your blog into a profitable business or run a physical shop, your brand is ultra-important to ensuring your business can grow.

Why? 

Working with creative businesses in our day to day work, we have found that a lot of new businesses have a clear idea of what they will be offering, but a less clear idea of who their product is for, what their brand values really are and how their business should look visually - these are just a few of the elements that help to build a strong brand.

We developed the ‘How to Build a Brand’ event at the beginning of 2018 to offer a service to newer businesses that needed help refining who they are and what they do. After running five successful events across the country in 2018, we decided that those business owners not only need the knowledge, but also the space and time to action those ideas.

Creating the ‘How to Build a Brand’ creative business retreat combines the workshops and knowledge from the previous events but with extra dedicated time to start working practically on ideas. One to ones with experts will also help business owners take a deep-end dive into their businesses. As well as this, the added time and communal space will form deeper relationships with the other like-minded business owners attending the event.

Abi Dare

Abi Dare is a blogger, freelance writer, stylist and Instagram influencer based in Bristol. She founded her successful interior design and travel blog, These Four Walls, in 2014, and also contributes to a range of independent lifestyle and travel publications. She’s known for her muted, minimalist aesthetic, and helps other creatives to develop an Instagram identity which reflects their own brand.

Lizzie Evans

Lizzie Evans is a creative entrepreneur who has worked in the design world for over 10 years. She manages her portfolio career, which includes her role as founder and owner of design-led lifestyle store SMUG in Islington’s Camden Passage, as well her coaching practice. 

Lizzie now designs her own stationery and homeware products under the self started brand Lizzie for SMUG and runs her podcast ‘How to Curate Your Life – Work Life Balance for the Creative Entrepreneur’.

Cat Byrne

Cat Byrne is the branding and website designer behind Gatto. She specialises in working closely with female creatives to create beautiful, intentional and personal brand designs for their businesses. Gatto has been her full-time career for the past four years in which time she has worked with over 100 creatives to build their dream brands.

Venue

Accommodation is set across both a stylishly designed 19th century Chapel and a quintessential English country home. The venue has been beautifully designed and has a luxurious feel, making it the perfect location for the creative business retreat.

The Chapel is home to the ‘workroom’ where our daily workshops will take place, whereas the other house will be used for lunches and dinners. There are plenty of breakout spaces across the two houses. Accommodation is split between both houses, but they share the same grounds so no travelling between them is needed.

The venue is situated on the edge of the Ashdown Forest, there is plenty of outside space to kick back and enjoy the view, outside dining areas to sit and sip a cup of tea, as well as a hot tub for relaxing in in the evenings.

Schedule

 
 

Friday 13th -

Arrival at 5pm to check in to your room and see the space. We’ll start with introductions and a vision exercise, before gathering for dinner together and a relaxed evening getting to know each other.


Saturday 14th -

Morning

The day will start with a delicious breakfast, before an interactive exercise to define your target audience with Olivia from Weekend:IN.

Next, Lizzie Evans will run a workshop on highlighting your brand values and how these should effect the way you run your business, you’ll leave feeling confident in what’s right for your brand.

After a light lunch, Cat Byrne will run an interactive workshop on visual identity and designing for your brand sweet spot. You’ll come away being clear on the visual elements of your brand and knowing how crucial the right visual identity is for your brand and your audience.

Afternoon

The afternoon will be spent individually working on what matters most in your business, giving you space to help you clarify or develop your brand.

There will be short breaks to have a 1-to-1 session with either Lizzie or Cat, depending on your needs for your business, and a 1-to-1 session with Olivia, Weekend:IN, to talk all things marketing.

The evening will be spent enjoying a delicious dinner and relaxing with wine in the communal space, or spending time in the hot tub, your choice.

Sunday 15th -

Morning

After a delicious breakfast, we’ll start the day with a session on styling your brand for Instagram with Abi Dare, including learning practical tips on photography and styling, using the house as the perfect backdrop.

Afternoon

We’ll then enjoy our last lunch together, before spending the afternoon working on whatever element of your business is most needed to help you clarify or develop your brand. We’ll break for group sessions and 1-to-1 mentoring sessions with Abi Dare. Olivia will host marketing consultations with the remainder of the group.

FAQs 

+ How many people will be on the retreat?

There will be up to 14 guests at the retreat, plus the hosts and a couple members of the Weekend:IN team.

+ Where will I stay?

Accommodation is set across both a stylishly designed 19th century Chapel and a quintessential English country home. Each house has been beautifully designed and have a real luxurious feel, making it the perfect location for the retreat.

The houses are situated on the edge of the Ashdown Forest, there are plenty of outside spaces to kick back and enjoy the view, outside dining areas to sit and sip a cup of tea, as well as a hot tub for relaxing on evenings.

Each room is spacious with either twin or triple beds.

+ How do I get there?

The retreat house is situated in Forest Row, next to Ashdown Forest. It is easily accessible via car or train.

Train: The house is just 3 miles from the local train station of East Grinstead with bi-hourly connections to London Victoria (approx 1 hour), 20 minutes from Gatwick and 45 minutes from Brighton. We will arrange a minibus from the station to the house on the Friday and back to the station on the Sunday. If you wish to leave any other time by train, you will need to book a taxi personally.

Car: We have car-parking spaces at the house.

We will send you the full address information when you book your place at the retreat.

+ What happens if I need to cancel?

Unfortunately, tickets and deposits are non-refundable. If you can find someone to take your place, we are happy to transfer your ticket to someone else's name.

+ What are the meals like? Can you cater for dietary requirements?

Here at Weekend:IN, we’re passionate about good food and having lots of it! You won’t go hungry during the retreat.

All meals are locally sourced, wholesome nutritionally balanced vegetarian, organic and delicious. You will be asked dietary requirements when you sign up to come along to the event, so just let us know and we will cater to your needs.

We will provide snacks and drinks for the whole weekend too, but feel free to bring anything you can’t live without, we’ll be happy to store it in the kitchen for you if needed.

+ How does the payment plan work?

Your first payment of £275 (early bird) or £325 (standard) will be taken through our website. We will then be in touch to set up the remaining 2 payments.

It is important you subscribe to the instalment plan within 7 working days or your place will be released.
